Refresh existing patio furniture:

Instead of splurging for a new patio furniture set try refreshing your current furniture. It is amazing what a coat of paint can do for any furniture, and its a much cheaper option. You can choose a fun vibrant color or go with a basic black or white and accessorize with bold colors or prints (See next tip). Don't have any existing furniture? Check thrift and antique stores for cheap patio furniture that needs some love! We had a black wrought iron table and chair set that was given to us by family. We decided to brighten up our space by spray painting the set white.

Update seating cushions:

A pop of color or bold print on seat cushions can liven up a space. You can replace the whole cushion or you can simply buy a new cushion cover. Either way its an inexpensive update that can completely change the vibe of your outdoor space. We decided to go with a light blue color on our updated seat cushions. The blue damask back pillows came from Society6 (link Below).

If you don't know what Society6 is I suggest you check out the link above. Society6 is a website where artists and designers can upload prints and designs and you can choose to get them on pillows, blankets, phone cases etc. You support artist and get beautiful unique products. There is something for any design style and the products are good quality!

We love our pillows from Society6. They have had no issues withstanding the high heat and humidity of our area. The pillow cases unzip and can be machine washed for easy cleaning. These pillows were a perfect addition to our patio refresh.

Extend patio space:

Pouring a larger cement patio is clearly not a budget friendly way to update a patio, but there are some clever ways to create the illusion of a larger patio. We decided to dig out a foot from our exiting patio borders and then fill that space with pea gravel. It created the feel of a larger patio. You could also fill this space with patio pavers or a combination of pavers and gravel. Get creative and find a way to extend out your existing patio without breaking the bank.

Add small decor updates:

An accent table, a decorative planter, string lights. These are all simple small decor updates that are inexpensive and easy to add to your existing patio decor. For our patio refresh we found a cute succulent planter bowl that brought some needed color to our newly painted patio table. Large planters with colorful flowers were another easy and inexpensive addition to our newly extended patio space. We also added string light to our patio so we could enjoy the space at night.

Update patio cover:

While we don't have the budget for a dreamy cedar pergola patio cover, we found another way to add a much needed cover for our patio. We opted for an affordable sail shade. Living in a hurricane prone area, we decided having a patio cover we could take down before a storm would be beneficial. Sail shades are a great option for a removable cover. Sail Shades are permeable so water will get through, but they provide great shade and protection from UV rays. They also come is almost any color to match your patio decor style. We opted for a soft gray color sail shade to compliment the cool blues of our new outdoor pillows.
